  • Be affiliated with an accredited academic or research institution

  • Use the data solely for non-commercial research or educational purposes

  • Sign up using a verified academic email address

Academic access is granted at Electricity Maps' discretion and is subject to our Terms of Service.

What is included

Academic users have access to:

  • API access for programmatic data retrieval across supported zones and signals

  • Dataset downloads via the portal

Datasets include signals such as carbon intensity, renewable energy percentage, and carbon-free energy percentage.

Checking availability

Zone, signal, granularity, and historical availability vary. Always confirm what is supported for your research by checking the Coverage page.

Usage restrictions

Academic data access is granted for non-commercial use only. You may not:

  • Resell, redistribute, or sublicense the data

  • Use the data in commercial products or services
