Datasets and CSV downloads

Updated this week

Overview

Electricity Maps has sunset its general datasets product to focus on supporting our API offering. CSV datasets remain available only for academic users and for Scope 2 carbon accounting use cases. If you need programmatic or real-time access to electricity data, the API is the recommended path.

Who can still access CSV datasets?

Academic users

Approved academic users conducting non-commercial research can download datasets through the portal. See Academic data access and availability for details.

Scope 2 carbon accounting

If you need electricity carbon intensity data specifically for internal Scope 2 carbon accounting and emissions reporting, request access here.

Learn more about what Scope 2 carbon accounting data includes: Scope 2 Carbon Accounting Data

For all other use cases: use the API

If your use case includes real-time data, forecasts, programmatic access, integration into applications, or commercial use beyond standalone Scope 2 reporting, the Electricity Maps API is the right solution.

Note for academic users: datasets include historical data for sustainability signals only (Carbon Intensity, Carbon-Free Energy %, Renewable Energy %). The API provides all signals in historical and real-time, plus forecasts for sustainability signals only. See Academic data access and availability for details.

What CSV datasets include

When available, CSV datasets contain signals such as:

  • Carbon intensity

  • Carbon-free energy percentage

  • Renewable energy percentage

Each dataset is defined by zone (region), year, and granularity (for example, hourly or daily).

Checking availability

Dataset availability depends on zone, signal, granularity, and year. Always check the Coverage page to confirm what is supported for your zones.

Licensing and terms

All dataset usage is subject to our Terms of Service. Review licensing carefully, especially for external or customer-facing use cases: Terms of Service
