Where do I find my Home Assistant API Key?

Updated over a month ago

Where to find your Home Assistant API key

To find your API key for the Home Assistant integration:

  1. Log in with your Electricity Maps account.

  2. Your API key is shown on this page.

I don’t see an API key on this page

If you do not see an API key here, this means your account was created without selecting the Home Assistant integration.

Accounts created this way do not include a Home Assistant API key, and this cannot be fixed on the existing account.

How to get a Home Assistant API key

To get a valid Home Assistant API key, you need to create a new account using the Home Assistant signup flow.

  1. Log out of your current Electricity Maps account.

  2. Complete the signup process.

Why this is required

Home Assistant access is defined at signup:

  • Only accounts created via the Home Assistant signup flow receive a Home Assistant API key

  • Home Assistant access cannot be added later to an existing account

Need more than Home Assistant?

If you want access to the full Electricity Maps platform (API, datasets, dashboards, more zones):

  • Keep your Home Assistant account for Home Assistant usage

  • Create a separate account with a different email

  • Sign up for a non–Home Assistant use case
