Overview
To use Electricity Maps with Home Assistant, you need a dedicated Electricity Maps account created specifically for the Home Assistant integration.
This account gives you access to:
The Home Assistant integration only
One zone, e.g. Denmark
One API token for use in Home Assistant
1) Create your Home Assistant account
Create your account.
2) Understand the account scope
After signing up with the Home Assistant flow:
Your account is limited to the Home Assistant integration
You get access to one zone
You receive an API token that works with the Home Assistant plugin
This account does not provide access to the full Electricity Maps platform (portal, datasets, full API, etc.).
3) Get your API token
Once logged in:
You'll be in your Home Assistant settings.
Locate your API token.
Copy the token, you will use it in Home Assistant.
4) Set up Home Assistant
Follow the official Home Assistant setup guide:
Paste your Electricity Maps API token when prompted.
Need full platform access?
If you want access to the full Electricity Maps platform (API, datasets, dashboards, more zones):
Log out of your Home Assistant account
Sign up again using a new email address
Select a different use case
Do not select the Home Assistant use case during onboarding
