Why are the emission factors by technology changing for different areas?

Updated over 4 months ago

For some zones, we are able to source more precise emission factors than the global average used as a fallback.

For the US and the EU, direct power plant emissions and generation data is publicly available. This allows us to calculate an emission factor per power plant, which is aggregated on the technology and zone level. See details on how we do these calculations.
